CHARLOTTE--Mayor Anthony Foxx and Charlotte City Council members are asking Mecklenburg County's delegation in Raleigh to hold off on proposed legislation that would affect Charlotte-Douglas International Airport.
A bill introduced last week would transfer airport control from the city to an independent airport authority.
In a letter sent Monday, city leaders said they haven't been told about problems with the current system, and it seems rash to push through such a big structural change. They also asked for a study to find out, among other things, whether such an authority would drive up costs for future airport improvements.
Most airports in North Carolina are controlled by an independent authority.
